Rotomolded Vacuum Bag Telemark Ski Press
I am trying to make my own dual sport telemark skis to use for kitesurfing and snow applications. It does seem like a pretty far fetched idea, but I can't seem to shake the dreams I continue having of combining my two favorite sports of surfing and telemark skiing. I have put an effort into different types of design options, materials, and manufacturing options. I am going to utilize new technologies adapted from whitewater kayak construction- (rotomolding) and traditional Eropean Alpine ski construction-( Vaccuum molding) My primary goal is to use materials that are sound in strength and offer a "greener" approach to the entire aspect of ski building. Ski's are bound together using high VOC ( Volitile Organic Compounds) like 2 part slicon epoxies and when heated during the manufacturing process, release toxic fumes into the environment. I have settled on some exotic materials to enforce the cores of my "Kitele" project. I will be using a 1/4 in tapered bamboo core with industrial Hemp substitutes for the fiberglass sheeting to bind the skies together. (to be continued)
